Yamaha Survival Kit is an Accessories Package that includes several accessories, besides the power adapter. You get quite a bit for your money and buying these as part of this bundle/kit usually turns out to be less expensive than buying both separately.
Introduction
There are many Yamaha portable keyboards (even keyboards from other brands) that do not ship with a power supply in the box, so you have to buy it separately.
Its kind of stupid on the part of the keyboard manufacturers not to provide power adapter when someone buys a keyboard instrument. Because if they do, most users would ideally not need anything else.
I guess, this is another way to make a few more sales (of accessories).
While most Yamaha portable keyboards operate on batteries, the batteries have to be bought separately as well (and batteries are good only for specific situations, for regular practice you need a power adapter).
So he best thing to do is to buy a Yamaha keyboard that comes with a power supply included in the box (check the listing to see if power supply is included).
But if the power adapter is not included, you may consider buying one of these survival kits.
Yamaha Survival Kit (SK) includes a bunch of useful keyboard accessories for Yamaha portable keyboards; the advantage of buying this package is that you don’t have to buy the accessories separately.
- These include the AC power adapter
- Headphones also are quite handy as it lets you practice without disturbing others, helps maintain sanity at home (or in case you don’t want others around you to listen to your practice sessions). These are decent, functional headphones (not very good)
- Foot switch is basically a box-style piano pedal that allows you to sustain the notes while playing. These are not the best piano pedals, but you will get an idea of how to sustain the notes using a pedal.
- The included DVDs help to explore the various learning websites.
- two-year extended warranty
Top Yamaha Survival Kits
Includes useful supplemental items. Power adapter, foot switch, headphones, two-year extended warranty are some of the accessories that are usually included on the survival kits.
The power adapter is required. Head phones and pedals are not studio/pro quality, but I guess so would be the piano playing skill of most beginners who would use these accessories.
Besides, you also get 2-year extended warranty, which sort of covers the cost of these items.

Closing Thoughts
While you would expect the manufacturer to at least include a power adapter with your keyboard purchase, it is not always the case; some models do not include the adapter and you have to buy it separately. Other accessories like headphones and pedals are also useful for a beginner.
If you want the best out of your Yamaha keyboard, you can use these Survival Kits that come with several useful accessories such as Power Adapter, Footswitch, stereo headphones, and more.
Buying these as part of this package turns out to be cost-effective, but if you’re looking for high-quality accessories, you will have to buy them separately, as this package includes entry-level accessories that are designed to be functional and cheap.

Bought the Yamaha SKD2 Survival Kit but don’t think it is worth the money … head phone and sustain pedal quality is cheap, the only thing useful in the kit is the power supply and that can be bought for less individually.

I bought this mainly to get the AC power supply but got lots of other stuff with it too. Lots of stuff for the money. Offers good value and i think having a spare kit is a good idea, in the event of loss.
