- Excellent sounds and key action
From the inside this is still an acoustic piano, with the proper hammer action, strings and the pedals. When you play in acoustic mode, the hammers do strike the strings and produce the sound.
However, you can switch from the Acoustic mode to the Silent mode. Whenever you choose to disengage the Acoustic Piano, the hammers will not strike the strings, and so you will not be able to hear the acoustic piano sound, but you can hear the digital voices or use it as MIDI controller / multi-track recording instrument.
But how does it work in the silent mode?
- The hammers, keys and pedals, all are equipped with sensors that convert your every playing movement into signals. These signals are sent to an in-built tone generator, and that is what you can hear with your headphones plugged in.
- You may even connect it to an external home surround system if you wish. You can connect up to two headphones.
- Once you are in the digital mode, you do get more options and that is why you are provided with several more voices. You can even record your performances.
The keyboard touch however will remain consistent in either of the piano modes.
The Silent pianos are quite an Innovative range of acoustic pianos from Yamaha, which allows you to have the best of both the worlds. You can use the pianos as midi controller, or use it to hear the onboard digital piano sounds!
