Review
For a long time, the Yamaha YPG-235 was the go to keyboard for beginners looking for an inexpensive, portable 76-key arranger keyboard.
The Yamaha PSR-EW300 is an improved version of the YPG-235 and is expected to dominate the market for that category.
The Yamaha PSR-EW300 is basically a starter keyboard but comes with 76 keys, which is quite useful for the more serious piano beginner, who doesn’t want to invest in a 88-key piano at the moment.
Using USB to HOST audio and MIDI connectivity, the keyboard can interact with creative software and educational apps on computer/iOs device to expand the capabilities of the instrument.
You can connect an external, portable music player to the Aux Input and use the melody suppressor to remove/soften the melody (lead vocal) so that you can instead sing and play your favorite tunes — great feature for practicing.
The keyboard comes with on-board lesson functions, including the new Touch Tutor, which will supplement your regular piano lessons.
More Features
Aux Line Input allows you to connect an external music device (MP3 player, computer, mixer — needs to have an headphone output) so that the song/music can be heard through the keyboards internal speakers. You can then suppress the melody and play that part yourself. Melody Suppressor isolates the melody of audio songs (connected to the Aux Line Input jack) so that you can sing along or play the lead.
Here are some useful features that will come handy in your practice sessions:
- Yamaha Education Suite (Y.E.S.) allows you to learn the built-in songs – one hand at a time, or with both together.
- Touch Tutor lesson mode teaches dynamics (how to play softly, louder, and so on).
- Duo mode splits the keyboard into two halves, each with their own “middle C”, great feature for practicing with a partner
Dual Mode lets you layer two Voices together (so you can combine piano and strings).
Split mode lets you play a different Voice with each hand (play bass on left, piano on right).
USB to HOST connectivity for MIDI and audio transfer, allows you to use the keyboard with creative software for more fun.
Backlit LCD provides better readability under any lighting conditions.
AC or battery powered: Batteries give you the flexibility to take it mobile.
