Vivaldi: The Four Seasons – This one is a must have for any classical music collection. Play it in background, or just sit and listen to it and imagine the changing seasons.
About the Music
The Four Seasons, composed in 1723, is one of Baroque legend Vivaldi’s most famous works for violin, but it accounts for only four of his around 350 concertos. Over the years, Four Seasons has become one of the most recorded pieces of classical music and has a universal appeal. The four concertos depict the changing seasons in a pastoral landscape with dazzling variety.
Vivaldi evokes not only the changing atmospheric conditions, but also bird calls and animal cries, swaying grass, bubbling brooks, and human events such as drunkards sliding and slithering, and a man walking on ice.
The recording is good (despite the price), which makes you enjoy the music even more. The three extra concertos for violin included on this disc are real treats, especially the Concerto for 2 violins in A minor.
