When you talk of classical music, to be frank, it really doesn’t get much better than the Berlin Philharmonic. And ‘The European Concert’ brings together the dynamic young maestro with some of the world’s finest musicians. What you get to hear is great works of Brahms, Haydn and Beethoven, climaxed by Beethoven’s 5th Symphony.
Overview
Every year the Berliner Philharmoniker invite artists for the orchestras traditional birthday concert on May 1st. In 2012, the guests were Gustavo Dudamel, conducting, and Gautier Capuçon (cello) Gustavo Dudamel has recorded Beethovens 5th symphony once before with his Simon Bolívar Youth Orchestra, which featured on his debut record on Deutsche Grammophon.
Performed at the Spanische Hofreitschule in Vienna! A spectacular, unique setting for a thrilling and historic music event. The Spanish Riding School has, to this day, a long standing relationship with music: The famous Musikverein was founded here in 1812. Furthermore, Haydns musical career started in its back garden!
This DVD is one of my favorites in classical music. A terrific value.
