This is one of the most sought after song among beginner music students and almost everyone who is learning wants to play this song on the guitar.
There is no doubt this is the most commonly played tunes of all time, and the best part is that it is also the easiest and probably the fastest to learn.
Happy Birthday to You Copyright
In case you didn’t know this, Music publisher Warner/Chappell used to claim copyright to this song and used to collect royalties for the public performances of this song.
However, filmmaker Jennifer Nelson challenged the “Happy Birthday” copyright in court, as it had the same melody as “Good Morning to You,” a children’s song dating to the 19th Century.
The good news is that the public will soon be free to sing the world’s most famous song. The plaintiffs argued that a song appearing in early 20th-century children’s textbooks had to be in the public domain because of general publication, abandonment or the length of the copyright term.
The song will soon be in the public domain.
This song is is meant to be shared and enjoyed by all; not locked away in some vault until someone paid to a greedy corporation.

How to Play Happy Birthday on Guitar (or any other instrument)?
Here are the notes, beats and the way to play happy birthday on the guitar.
Time Signature
You first need to know the time signature of this song, its commonly played in 3/4 time, which means there will be 3 beats within each bar.
Now, if you have only played songs that are based on the 4/4 time, then it could take some time for you to adjust to this time signature.
So it is best to count the rhythm as 1,2,3, 1,2,3 and keep on repeating it as you play.
Choosing the Right Key
Another thing to keep in mind is to start low, as the song has a range of an octave. So it could get difficult for you to reach the high notes.
That is why you should choose a low note to start with; a better suggestion is to use the G key.
The notes, and the video listed here should definitely help you to learn the song better. So the next time you are at the birthday party of someone closer to you, don’t let that opportunity pass away as you now know, how to play happy birthday on guitar or piano.
Mash-up of ‘Happy Birthday’ and Beethoven’s ‘Eroica’ for Conductor’s birthday
The SWR Symphonieorchester (orchestra) recently surprised its conductor with a superb mash-up of ‘Happy Birthday’ and Beethoven’s ‘Eroica’ on his 84th birthday.
We all know the Happy birthday tune, some can play it on the piano, or the guitar, or some other instrument. But how does it sound if an Orchestra performs the popular tune.
It sounds awesome, especially when its combines with another classic such as Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 (nicknamed the ‘Eroica’).
The SWR Symphonieorchester surprised Sir Roger with this mash-up (arrangement by Georg ter Voert) on his 84th birthday, during the rehearsals.
