Want to build your own digital piano or stand? Its not that difficult as it may seem. And a wooden stand/bench looks much more elegant.
There are several reasons why people want to build their own stuff:
- They like to create things
- They have spare time
- They are not happy with what is currently available in the market
- They think it can be made better and cheaper
Here’s a nice DIY digital piano stand with bench project that you can build for around $25 and the end-result is quite good actually.
While the stand and the bench is not height-adjustable, it looks a lot elegant and really goes along well with the rest of the furniture in the living room.
- The stand is made from inexpensive pieces of pine and takes just a few hours to build, so its a great thing to do over the weekend.
- The top of the table and the bench, both have planks of wood across the top
- You could even use this stand as a homework desk, a project table, or even as a a makeup desk

Both the husband and the wife are tall people so they designed the bench and stand taking their heights into consideration (6.3′ and 5.9′), but if you wish you can reduce the height a bit.

How To Color Your Piano Bench?
Question:
Is it common / usual to color a piano bench once it has become worn out? I have a bench that is quite old and also has some damages because of water spills (don’t recollect how exactly it happened). Showed it to some furniture guys, but either they are quoting too high (in excess of 100 bucks) or they say that nothing much can be done as the damage is quite bad. Before I decide to buy a new one, I was just thinking if it is possible to just make it look better without spending a lot of money.
How about coloring my piano bench? I want to paint it black, but is it common? My piano has a very dark mahogany color. Any recommendation on how to paint my piano bench? – Athena (UK)
Answers:
As long as the legs do not fall off, I would not be worried. I guess any glossy color would look good on it. Black would be good because of the contrast. But if it is damaged, I am not sure if you would be able to paint it even and get that high-finish gloss if you try on your own. May be you should ask more furniture guys. – Rob
If it looks too much of a hassle, I would just buy a new one. You can always buy an inexpensive one. Some of the keyboard benches are available for as low as 30 bucks. – Anonymous
For painting your piano bench, consider a very dark (black or brown) glaze used to stain cabinets. The finish is quite forgiving of finish problems. You will find a lot of info online about the process and pictures of finished products. – Anonymous
