An All-Steinway School is a designation that Steinway & Sons bestows on institutions that use only the company’s pianos on their campuses, from the practice rooms across the music department to the performance halls.
There are approximately 200 institutions across five continents have been named All-Steinway Schools as of last year.
Being an all-Steinway School boosts the ability of the school to recruit students and faculty, enhances the performance level of students, and even attracts donors to the music programs and other academic areas of the institution.
Another important advantage of having the designation of being an All-Steinway school is that it allows the school to host an international piano competition that attracts some of the top talent from all over the world.
Its often seen that in most colleges/universities, the music department is “in dire need” of more practice rooms. After years of use, pianos on most campuses need replacement because of wear and age, primarily those in the student practice and rehearsal rooms. “Those are the pianos most often and heavily utilized by our learners — all of whom are required to have some keyboard competencies. Some pianos had reached the point where the required frequent tuning of them made them less economically viable than new ones.”
The main reason for having Steinway pianos is to provide the best opportunities for the students. Almost all music majors are required to complete a certain amount of piano courses for their degree. Besides, a number of students from other majors are interested in the piano or need piano accompaniment.
Steinway pianos are among the best quality instruments that music students can interact with.
