More Alfred Piano Methods
Alfred method provides a variety of books for various age groups – ranging from the Primer (3-5 year olds) to older beginners (5-6 years old), to adults. This method is based on the traditional method of learning to play the piano. When I say traditional, I mean you learn to play piano by learning to read written music, right from the beginning.
Need Supplementary Books?
Besides the adult piano courses, there is also a good collection of correlated supplementary books from the publisher – Christmas books, All-Time Favorites, Pop Hits, Sacred, and more. Add these books to your repertoire if you want more! Have fun with your practicing!
Alfred’s Basic Piano Course (Ages 7-11)
Alfred’s Basic course is spread over seven levels: 1A, 1B, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
Each level has a set of books: Lesson, Theory, Recital (longer solos), Technique, Ear Training, and Repertoire (classical pieces). The various concepts are tied across the sets of books by providing reference page numbers. In each book, it tells the teacher where to find the corresponding pages in the other books. This makes it easier to coordinate topics spread across multiple books.
Alfred’s Basic Piano Course for the Later Beginner (Ages 8-10)
The Alfred piano method also offers a Basic All-in-One course, which is a chord-based course.
There are 3 levels in this course, with Lesson books, Theory Books, Fun Books, Technique Books, Recital Books, and Ear Training books for each level. The levels are fewer and chords are introduced early on, this is because the late beginners normally get impatient soon and they enjoy progressing more rapidly.
Alfred’s Basic Adult Piano Course
The Alfred’s basic books cover the same concepts and structure as the All-in-One books, but in separate volumes. This allows the more serious adult learner to get a more in-depth theory and technique study. You have two versions because some learners like to get into the details of the theory whereas some of them are happy with getting started with the piano songs at the earliest -:)
Alfred publishes lot of supplemental books as well to help you apply the concepts and techniques that have been learnt in your normal lessons. Finger Aerobics, Sacred Music, All-Time Favorites, Pop Songs, Country, Ear Training, Notespeller, and Sight Reading are some of the books you could refer to if you are looking for more.
