Alesis Recital Digital Piano: Review

This piano has everything you need to get started, and is available at entry level prices. The keybed feels pretty decent with the semi weighted keys. Its great for a beginner who’s looking for a full size keyboard with slightly weighted keys to learn on.

How is the Key action on this keyboard
Although responsive & touch sensitive, the keys are not full weighted. It has a spring action, the keys are light and the key action is more along the lines of a synthesizer.

So even though its a good starter piano, if you have been taking piano lessons and if you teacher has suggested that you buy a digital piano, then go for a piano with full weighted keys.

Same goes for gigging musicians who are looking for a digital piano with fully weighted keys (although this one fits nicely on a typical “X” stand).

How are the sounds like
The sounds are okay (considering the price).

However, you get only five sounds, but the good thing is that you can get more sound combinations by splitting the keyboard and layering sounds.

• You can split the keyboard to play two different sounds on separate sections of the keyboard.
• You you can layer one sound on top of another for a more denser, richer sound (quite useful feature in case you find a particular voice too thin).
• You can also use the reverb and chorus effects to round out the sounds a little more.

MIDI connectivity
It comes with MIDI connectivity feature (through USB), which makes it easy to connect the piano to a computer and work with music learning software or music recording software. It also has an RCA stereo output

Learning Features
There is a Split mode that divides the keyboard into two parts – left and right sides (each can play a different voice). The Lesson mode separates the keyboard into two areas with the same pitch and voice. That means a student can sit next to their teacher with both playing the same notes, for a more effective learning experience.

The Alesis recital is a more recent model and has been appreciated by users for its sound and overall features. It has powerful built-in speakers and offers more sounds as compared to the Williams legato. The Williams legato used to be a good option when it was launched, because of its affordability.
