Yamaha PSR-EW400 keyboard is the latest model in the popular PSR-E range of keyboards. This keyboard brings in certain features that didn’t exist in the previous PSR keyboard models, while maintaining the price point (that users expect from PSR keyboards).
Yamaha PSR-EW400: Pros & Cons
- Pros: 76 keys. Powerful loud speakers for a portable keyboard. Nice USB and iOS integration
- Cons: Smaller LCD screen. Yamaha should have come with a 76 key PSR model long back
Yamaha PSR-EW400: Review
Most keyboard players have grown up playing on Yamaha PSR keyboards, and the PSR series still happens to be the most popular series from Yamaha.
Comes with 76 Keys
Fans finally have something to cheer up, this one comes with 76 Keys (first in the PSR arranger series). PSR models until now only came with 61 keys.
The extra keys will let you play many more songs, without having to shift up or down an octaves…makes it appealing to live performers as well.
Sounds & Rhythms
The PSR-EW400 comes with
758 high quality voices (acoustic to electric), including the new Live! Grand Piano Voice. It comes with 220 accompaniment styles.
Powerful Loudspeakers
The PSR-EW400 comes with powerful dual 12-watt speakers that sound nice (no distortion) even when the volume is pushed towards max. You can use this keyboard for rehearsals without necessarily needing external keyboard amplifier (or PA).
USB-to-host, USB-to-device
The keyboard comes with a USB-to-host connection
for recording on a computer (for MIDI or audio transfer). You also get a USB-to-device connection to save and transfer via USB stick.
More Connections
The PSR-EW400 comes with dedicated left and right outputs on 6.5mm connectors (for connecting to PA system). Most PSR keyboards, until now, allowed taking a signal from the headphone output.
Then there is the Auxiliary Input that allows audio playback from a music player so that you can perform on your favorite songs.
Apps
You can also access various iOS apps for additional MIDI control over sounds, settings and effects. You can even use these apps wirelessly, but for that you will need to use the (optional) Bluetooth adaptor with the keyboard.
