Roland RD 2000: Review

The RD-2000 (replaces the popular Roland RD-800 stage piano) is built for the performing keyboardist. It features dual sound engines that produce the best acoustic and electric pianos, and it has the best key action that you will find on a stage piano.

It has got a wonderful touch/feel and an amazing soundbank with over thousand presets, and lots of features to program/customise the sounds. It even works as a great controller, very easy to link to your computer, and easy to map all the parameters on the keyboard to your software instruments. The keyboard allows adjustable touch, which is a nice feature, especially for those players who have joint problems in their hands.

Realistic Sounds
The RD-2000 stage piano features the incredible V-Piano engine, and is much cheaper than the real V-Piano. RD-2000’s acoustic piano sounds are fantastic; in general, all the acoustic voices are incredibly natural, responsive and detailed. The piano comes loaded with top-quality sounds for every music genre. It also has two wave expansion slots for adding more sounds.

Keyboard Action
The Roland RD 2000 features the PHA-50 keyboard action (Roland’s best key action yet). The keys are a combination of plastic and wood, which makes the keys look and feel more natural.

Designed for the Stage
The Roland RD-2000 is a stage piano and its design is specifically directed at the stage musician. You can edit almost every parameter of the sound. The LED indicators on the controls/knobs makes it easy to view in dimly lit areas. The 9 sliders can double as real-time drawbars for controlling the “Tonewheel Organ” sounds, to emulate a B3.

Controller Setup
The RD-2000 can also be used as a controller for working with various software-based instruments on stage. It can also be a hub for your laptop’s setup, thanks to the built-in USB/MIDI interface. Just connect it to your studio DAW and start creating music.
