German composer and producer Nils Frahm is the man behind the global celebration called ‘Piano Day’ – held on 29th March every year.
And why March 29th?
Because its the 88th day of the year (88 is the number of keys found on most pianos).
The aim of the day is to create a platform for piano related projects and to continue sharing the centuries-old joy of playing piano.
“Why does the world need a Piano Day? For many reasons. But mostly, because it doesn’t hurt to celebrate the piano and everything around it: performers, composers, piano builders, tuners, movers and most important, the listener.” – Nils Frahm
This is why, from here on, every year on the 88th day (the number of keys on a standard instrument) – writers, composers, tuners, movers, performers, and listeners will gather to celebrate the legacy of Bartolomeo Cristofori’s invention.

The world of classical music can come across as rigid, with several rules and customs. But on Piano Day; fun, joy, and education takes over. Its a day truly worth celebrating. Piano Day’s great success is also a positive reminder that the piano’s best days are not over yet (in fact, still to come).
