Top makes of German pianos (except those from East Germany when it was separated) are generally considered to be the best in the world, owing to their rich tone quality and good action, and can look stunning.
Bechstein, Bosendorfer, Bluthner, and Steinway grand and upright pianos are some of the more popular brands.
Most modern GERMAN grands (those made post 1950) cannot be easily found on the second hand market, obviously because they’re relatively young. The best ones that come up relatively frequently are: Steinway models O (5ft 10in) and B (6ft 11in). Model M (5ft 7in) and model S (5ft 1in) baby grand pianos are good but not so common.
Unless you have specific reasons, avoid modern Bluthners that were made from 1950 to about 1990 as these were made in East Germany (while Germany was divided or just after reunification), and the materials used was not always of the highest quality.
